Indonesia
Indonesia is Southeast Asia's largest economy. Though rich in natural resources, consumption and labour productivity play a large role in fuelling the country's growth.
All shipments are subject to duty and taxes as Indonesia Customs do not offer a duty free allowance.
Import duty applies for all goods shipments: Duty: 0-20%, VAT: 10-20%, Income Tax 2.5-15% (7.5% if the receiver has a tax number; 2.5% if the receiver has a tax number and import identification number).
For all express companies and forwarders the importer must provide the original Power of Attorney (POA) letter, which must be renewed monthly. The receiver must clear Bonded Zone shipments exceeding 100 kg / 220 lb.

Restricted items specific to the Indonesia:
Document shipments exceeding 10 kg / 22 lb must be sent as goods.
Compact discs and computer software, including optical discs
Importation without permit only valid for individual receivers; shipment must be less than ten pieces. If shipping to a corporate name and address, obtain surveyor certificate & import permit from Indonesia’s Ministry of Trade before shipping.
Cellular / mobile phones / smartphones including accessories & components, handheld computers including PDAs and palmtops, radar equipment including transmitters and receivers, telecommunication equipment
Up to two devices: exempt from licensing requirements. More than two devices: shipper to obtain surveyor certificate before shipment. Receiver must be a Registered Importer for the device and obtain Import Approval from Indonesia’s Ministry of Industry.
Animal products
Receiver to obtain certificate from Indonesia’s Directorate General of Food and Drug Control.
Animal skins, including raw leather materials (not finished goods)
Shipper to obtain Certificate of Origin and Certificate of Health. Receiver to obtain import licence and quarantine permit from Indonesia’s Ministry of Agriculture. Contact DHL Customer Services for further information.
Coffee & coffee samples and seeds including cotton seed
Receiver requires quarantine permit from Indonesia’s Ministry of Agriculture.
Alcoholic beverages, cosmetics, drugs: prescription & non-prescription, foodstuffs including grain samples
Receiver to obtain permit from Indonesia’s Directorate General of Food and Drug Control. Personal importation is not allowed. Obtain a Certificate of Inspection (LS) for shipments under Incoterm FOB valued over US$ 1,500.
Films / movies
Obtain import licence from Indonesia’s Board of Film Censorship (Lembaya Sensor Film). Import duty contingent on film duration.
Hardback and paperback books for non-commercial use
Obtain special import permit from Attorney General.
Leather goods, plants and plant products
Shipper to obtain phytosanitary certificate. Receiver to obtain quarantine permit from Indonesia’s Ministry of Agriculture.
Lubricant oil products including lubricant grease
Obtain registered lubricant number licence from Indonesia’s Directorate General of Oil & Gas before shipping.
Medical/dental supplies & equipment
Receiver to obtain permit from Indonesia’s Ministry of Health before shipping.
Personal effects
State PERSONAL EFFECTS on waybill. To qualify for duty exemption, Indonesian citizens must obtain a statement of stay (2 years for government staff; 3 for anyone else). Include a packing list endorsed by the Indonesian Embassy at origin. Expats (only 1 allowance) must provide passport, resident & work permits.
Tapes: video cassettes
Subject to censorship. Duties contingent on the duration of the movie.
Textile articles
Import less than ten ready-made garments. Receiver must be registered as an ‘Importer of Certain Product’, obtain a Surveyor Certificate (pre-inspection from origin country) and provide quarter report to Indonesia’s Ministry of Trade.
Tobacco
Obtain quarantine permit from Ministry of Agriculture. Shipper must provide Original Phytosanitary Certificate.
Used or second-hand communications equipment
Receiver must obtain supporting paperwork from Indonesia’s Ministry of Trade and from SGS/Surveyor from Origin.
