Car parts

Sending car parts via a courier is quick, cheap and reliable as long you prepare and package your items correctly – this is a guide on how to do exactly that. We’ll even show you how to get them insured.

We always encourage our customers to review our excluded items list before shipping with us. If you are shipping internationally then you should check the recipient countries customs website for further details on restricted or prohibited items. This will ensure you don’t waste time on your goods being stopped at customs, for example, as well as avoiding the prospect of any additional charges.

If you are shipping an engine or engine parts then it is critical you drain and dry the engine parts thoroughly. Many car liquids such as engine oils and brake fluids are classed as hazardous and cannot be sent via courier.

This also applies to any liquids in the engine parts, such as ignitable gas like Petrol not just hazardous ones. All liquids must be drained to reduce the possibility of leakages or spills during transit. If you do not drain the liquids then you may face your goods being stopped in transit and abandoned as they can’t be shipped back to you.

How do I package my car parts to survive in transit?

  • Bumpers

Bumpers by nature are bulky and cumbersome items that need to fit into one large box. This can be tricky due to their size and shape, but once a box is found that the bumper can fit nicely into, you will need to fill it in the packaging materials to cushion and support the item inside the box.

  • Bonnets

The average size of a car bonnet is 146 cm x 137cm, which can be difficult to send by courier. This is due to the difficulty in finding a box that can fit the entire item. However, once you have found a box big enough then it is simply a process of packaging it properly and selecting the right service.

If you can’t find a box to fit, then the best alternative is a wooden crate – and if you can’t buy one, then build it from plywood. You can also buy specialist heavy duty cardboard boxes that are 15cm larger than your bonnet, in each direction.

  • Tyres and Wheels

Car tyres and wheels require no special preparation prior to sending via courier, and they are easy to package for transport, just follow our packaging guidelines.

Remember that although car tyres and wheels are very durable, they are also quite heavy, so it is important to use a strong box and protect them with sufficient internal packaging materials. You should also always use a separate box for each tyre/wheel.
